Building hope in Southend

18 Jun 2019

Girls’ Brigade Ministries recently hosted the first ever Build Hope breakfast for local church leaders in the Fisherman’s Chapel in Leigh-on-Sea, Southend.

11 local church leaders attended the event, on 22 May 2019, which aims to grow the missional partnership between GB and local churches

GB’s Mission and Advocacy Enabler Dr Claire Rush shares ‘It was fantastic to welcome both GB chaplains and church leaders who had no prior contact with GB Ministries (GBM). After a wonderful breakfast, our interactive session explored issues impacting girls and how local churches and GBM can work together in effective mission to build hope among children and young people in local communities. I’m grateful to the fantastic, intergenerational 2nd Southend District leadership team who helped to deliver an excellent event.’

District Team Leader Sally Claydon adds ‘I wanted to host a Build Hope breakfast because I recognise that in GB we sometimes hide our light under a bushel! We're such a great organisation, doing amazing things with our girls and young women, but sometimes we forget to tell others.  Hosting the breakfast was a great way to encourage existing GB chaplains and to remind them how GB and the church can partner together to reach out to families in their area. I'd definitely recommend other districts host a breakfast. Everyone went away encouraged and inspired.’
