GB joins the Big Pancake Party

7 Feb 2019

For the first time GB groups throughout England and Wales will have the opportunity to run Big Pancake Parties to raise funds to help fight food poverty and for GB nationally.

What is a Big Pancake Party?
The idea is simple; get people together, eat some pancakes, have a great time and raise funds for those in need. GB groups can join families, schools, and churches all taking part in this initiative. The parties can take place on pancake day itself, 5 March 2019, or on another day that works for you. GB groups could invite their members' family and friends to come along and ask them for donations or you may want to raise money through a tombola or a game of toss the pancake - check out the fundraising tips available on the Big Pancake party website for ideas.

Why should we take part?
Latest stats show that more and more people struggle to put food on the table. 1 in 8 British adults say they're anxious about not being able to afford food. All across this country there are children going to school hungry and parents skipping meals so that their kids can eat an evening meal.

GB groups taking part in the Big Pancake Party will raise funds to help fight food poverty through the work of the Church Urban Fund's (CUF) Together Network - and for GB nationally - a great way to help plug GB's funding deficit and for groups to take part in our Build Hope £125 challenge

GBEW President Rachel Gardner says 'The best recipes are made up of great ingredients that work brilliantly together. Take the much-loved pancake and throw in some creative young people and enthusiastic leaders who care for their community, and you get an unforgettable event that eats away at food poverty. I know that many GB groups will take up the challenge of the Big Pancake Party and stand up to food poverty. Let’s have fun and make a difference!'

How do we get involved?
Find out more about the partnership or, if you're a GB group leader click here to register your party and receive the correct fundraising pack, as well as to download some great resources such as invites, games, prayers and more... all you need to run a Big Pancake Party!

There's also guidance on how to split your fundraising money between CUF and GB. Pancake day is on the 5 March 2019 but you can throw a pancake party at any point in the next couple of months.
