Raising money for menstrual health packs

10 Aug 2018

1st Werrington GB group members have joined in with GB Europe's fundraising campaign to transform the lives of young women in East Africa.

GB Europe is hoping to fundraise enough money to buy 1,250 menstrual health packs to transform the lives of 1,250 girls in East Africa with charity Fields of Life throughout 2018.

The members of 1st Werrington held a coffee morning, on 23 June 2018, to raise money for this cause.

Team Leader Marie Degg says 'The amount raised to date is £555.60p. This has exceeded our expectations. We have such a caring, generous church family. I thank God for them all.'

The group's church is also going to raise money for these packs by donating the harvest appeal money later this year.

The I AM GIRL initiative has been launched to give hope to girls in GB's 125th birthday year - and joining in with the campaign is a great way for GB England & Wales' groups to join in with our Give Hope challenge.

GB Europe Chair Claire Rush says 'Unfortunately periods are a taboo subject in East Africa and only 1 in 5 girls make it to secondary school. For many, as they don’t have access to sanitary pads or safe toilets, just having their period is one of the reasons why they drop out. Completing their full education can transform the opportunities and lives of girls in East Africa.'
I AM GIRL menstrual health hygiene packs cost £7 each and contain 4 reusable sanitary pads, underwear, soap, towel, washbag, and instructions.
GB Europe wants GB groups to help them achieve and shatter their fundraising target of £8,750 by raising money at events such as sponsored activities and cake sales. Once a group has money they wish to donate they're asked to email to find out the best way to send a cheque or visit the Just Giving page to donate online.
